Guided Walks

Orpheus Island Resort is a premium nature based hideaway. Surrounded by 1,300 hectares of pristine national park, Orpheus offers guided and unguided walks throughout the park allowing you to explore the local flora, fauna and wildlife.

A wide variety of scenery

There are three clear walking tracks within the national park. The resort offers various guided and unguided walking options.

Tidal Flat Walk

Duration - 1 hour
This walk begins with an introduction to the Marine Creatures that are found in Hazard Bay and throughout the Great Barrier Reef, and how to interact with them in a responsible way. Join your guide for an informative and exciting journey onto the tidal flat developing your skills on "How to See" and discover the critical role that these aquatic creatures play in this amazing environment.

Hazard Bay Seaside Stroll

Duration - ½ hour
Rise and shine, and be refreshed by the clean crisp morning sea air as your naturalist guides you along the watery foreshore of Hazard Bay, to observe the juvenile stingrays and black tip reef sharks foraging for food over the tidal flat on the incoming tide. This is a great way to work up an appetite for the morning breakfast feast.

Picnic Bay Lookout Hike

Duration - 2 hours
Join your Expedition Leader for this moderate walk up onto the ridge behind Hazard Bay, to capture the sweeping view over the surrounding Palm Island group. Step back in time to the years where mariners walked the same tracks and sailed thru narrow passes as you are introduced to the history of the local area.

Sunrise with the Sea Eagles

Duration - 2 hours
Experience the dawn of the new day 'Orpheus style', as we walk from the resort over the grassy saddle that separates Hazard Bay from Horseshoe Bay for a spectacular view of the cliffs along the eastern coastline. As you gaze out from the cliff side where mighty Sea Eagles nest, witness the awe-inspiring vista of the sun rising from the turquoise waters of the Great Barrier Reef while indulging in tasty breakfast snacks. This is a wonderful opportunity to possibly glimpse basking turtles and dugongs in the waters below.

Nocturnal Saunter

Duration - ½ hour
Come and take a moonlit stroll through the resort gardens and along the edge of the national park in search of the unique night time animals as they come out to play.  Spot the echidnas, green tree frogs, and the timid bandicoots to name a few.

Tropical Flora Garden Walk

Duration - 1 hour
Join our Horticulturist for an insight into what makes our resort tropical and lush. Learn about the vast variety of tropical plants in our resort gardens and look for signs of animals that have been foraging right next to your retreat door. This is a green thumbs delight!

High Tea at Hazards Bay

Duration - 1 hour
Take a short stroll up the Lookout to enjoy a scrumptious Orpheus High Tea whilst overlooking Hazards Bay.  In an area that is often prime viewing for passing sea and bird life, indulge in home-made treats including scones, sandwiches and freshly baked biscuits with a selection of tea and coffee.

Wine & Cheese Tasting

Duration - 1 hour
Wine, cheese and exquisite tapas - the perfect way to end a perfect Orpheus Day!  After a short stroll to the Hazard Bay lookout, experience the sun setting over the Bay whilst enjoying your favourite wine and a selection of cheese and tapas.
