Cultural Tour

Orpheus has a rich cultural heritage stemming back to the 1930s when the lodge was run with the assistance of local indigenous people. Still today, our indigenous employees play an integral role in the operations of the lodge and their expert knowledge of the region makes for an unforgettable cultural experience.

On an indigenous-led tour of the culturally-rich Palm Islands archipelago, you can sight and learn the history of many neighbouring landmarks including an abandoned leper colony on Fantome Island, the ruins of a WWII degaussing station at Yanks Jetty and, if the tides permit, the wreck of a sunken Catalina plane.
