Reef Keepers Fund

Orpheus Island lodge is lucky enough to be situated in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world. At Orpheus Island, we are passionate about preserving the very reef that makes your stay so special.
The Reef Keepers Fund is an environmental fund created by the Orpheus Island Lodge group which supports projects and organisations committed to preserving and protecting the Great Barrier Reef. The fund allows guests to indulge with a clear conscious as $50 from each guest staying at the lodge is donated towards projects and initiatives designed to preserve the world’s largest coral reef ecosystem.

Sustainable Produce

At Orpheus Island we believe in providing guests with sustainably sourced produce – so much so that we have our own oon-site veggie patch. This provides our chefs with a constant supply of fresh produce for guest meals. We also keep a number of chickens which lay eggs daily for chef use. This helps to minimise our carbon footprint by reducing the distance from farm to table.

Research Station

Located within Pioneer Bay is the Orpheus Island Research Station, a marine research facility operated by James Cook University. During certain times of the year, internationally renowned marine scientists will be conducting integral research on climate change, sea level rise and the potential impacts on the local reef and ecosystems.
