Fishing off Orpheus Island
The Great Barrier Reef is a fisherman’s playground and the waters surrounding Orpheus provide some of the most sought after reef and game fishing species in the world. An excellent array of table fish including Coral Trout, Sweetlip, Red Emperor and Giant Trevally can be caught locally. For the avid anglers amongst us, a trip to the outer reef is where the famous pelagic species such as the Black Marlin, Dog Tooth Tuna, Spanish Mackerel and Wahoo breed.
Following your fishing expedition, let us take you ashore to a secluded cove where your daily catch can be grilled on an open fire whilst you enjoy an ice-cold beer or wine with your fellow fisherman. Alternatively, have your catch prepared to your liking by our Executive Chef and served for dinner back at the lodge.
Orpheus offers half day fishing expeditions to the fringing reefs.
Reef closure dates: midnight 1st October to midnight 6th October 2013, and midnight 30th October to midnight 4th November 2013.
Bookings are essential and expeditions are subject to weather and tidal conditions.
