Discover a world below at the Museum of Underwater Art

The Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA) is the first-ever underwater museum and art gallery in the Southern Hemisphere.

It focuses on the restoration and conservation of the Great Barrier Reef, sharing stories of the reef alongside educational exhibits on the First Nations people.

MOUA provides a truly unique experience under the waters of North Queensland. Its sculptural installations, about 80 kilometres off the coast, have been created by world-famous underwater sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor. They capture the beauty, culture and history of the reef while sharing the need for its protection.

MOUA at Orpheus Island

Orpheus Island Lodge is now able to offer its guests access to MOUA, including its remarkable Coral Greenhouse underwater installation. Located at John Brewer Reef, the Coral Greenhouse shares an important message of reef conservation. As you dive through the installation, you can see 20 “reef guardians” propagating coral and attracting a myriad of marine animals.

It presents a harmonious blend of human influence on one of nature’s most beautiful places. Jason deCaires Taylor uses natural materials for his sculptures, which help bring new life in all forms to these installations.

Orpheus Island Lodge’s new MOUA tours will give guests even more opportunities to experience this incredible natural attraction. Take a private charter boat from the island lodge directly to the Coral Greenhouse for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Combine the natural magic of The Museum of Underwater Art with luxury accommodation, gourmet seafood dining and unique experiences at Orpheus Island Lodge.
